About A to Z Founded in 2015, A to Z Impact believes that everyone deserves access to high-quality healthcare and economic opportunity. As a foundation, we align all of our activities towards social impact with a focus on placing 100% of our endowment into impact investing.In the US, we invest in a range of different funds and fund managers with impact focus areas of gender and racial equity. You can learn more about our investment criteria here, and see our current portfolio here.About the Position A to Z Impact is looking for a Summer Investment Associate. This will be an opportunity to join a small (but mighty!) team, and get exposure to all aspects of the impact investing process. A to Z will work with the candidate to identify projects and opportunities that align with their interests and experience. Some examples of potential work streams include: Conducting due diligence on potential new investments, and helping to draft investment memorandums for the foundation’s board. Identifying prospective investment leads through a variety of sourcing channels. Creating and refining standardized reports and pipeline / portfolio management tools that will help streamline and organize A to Z’s core operations. Developing financial models to better understand the cash flow and return expectations for A to Z’s various investments. Writing external facing reports to help launch A to Z’s public-facing thought leadership. Leading market research on a new investment geography or instrument to help the A to Z team expand its investment horizon. Revisiting and upgrading our impact measurement and monitoring strategy for the portfolio.Qualifications and Candidate Profile A to Z welcomes all qualified candidates regardless of education, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, national origin, disability, or quality of humor. To thrive in this position, a candidate should: Have 3+ years of professional experience. Previous experience within a financial institution, consulting firm, social enterprise, or impact investing firm is ideal. Be actively enrolled in an accredited graduate degree program, with an academic concentration in business (MBA), international development, economics, or finance. Have excellent research and communication skills (verbal and written), as well as familiarity with PowerPoint. Be an expert with Excel, financial modeling, and financial statement analysis. Have a passion for finding solutions to the challenges facing deeply underserved / marginalized communities and for the broader mission of A to Z Impact. Be data-driven, and possess the ability to aggregate, organize, and analyze data sets to provide insights to the organization. Have substantial intrinsic motivation and an entrepreneurial spirit. Be comfortable working autonomously as well as collaboratively, and operating in a work environment that may require shifting gears quickly and managing ambiguity. Have comfort operating in different contexts and cultures, and be sensitive to global cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating with diverse groups of people. Be kind.Compensation and Details Candidates will receive a monthly stipend, commensurate with experience and need. There is flexibility on exact start and end date (and total duration), but we assume a roughly 3 month period beginning around May 2023. The position will be remote, and candidates can be based wherever they choose. We will likely aim to host at least one in person team meet-up. Travel expenses will be reimbursed. |
