About Meds & Food for Kids

Meds & Food for Kids (MFK) is partnering with Nutriset, the world’s leading provider of Ready-to-Use therapeutic and supplemental foods, to produce Plumpy’Nut / Medika Mamba a Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in Cap-Haitien, Haiti. MFK also produces Plumpy’sup/Mamba Djanm for moderate malnutrition and Vita Mamba, a nutritious school snack. MFK saves the lives of Haiti’s malnourished children and other vulnerable populations by providing donor organizations, NGOs, medical missions, and healthcare providers with access to high quality, competitively priced “Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food” (RUTF). This enriched, energy-dense peanut butter is an innovation in treating malnutrition. Its incredible effectiveness and low cost led the World Health Organization, the World Food Programme and UNICEF to declare it an “essential medicine” in 2007 and to advocate that all of the world’s malnourished children have access to this life-saving therapy.

With Nutriset’s support, MFK has embarked upon the construction of a new showcase food processing facility in Cap-Haitien, Haiti that was completed in the summer of 2012. The new facility has enabled MFK to increase the production of nutritious ready-to-use foods through the implementation of new production machinery and establishing new food safety processes. In our first year of operation in the state of the art facility, we increased production by 70%.

Plumpy’nut / Medika Mamba and MFK’s other nutritional products maximize health impacts while contributing to the social and economic development of one of the world’s poorest countries by building capacity in Haiti’s agricultural and industrial sectors. Currently, MFK’s programs cover children in Haiti’s Northern Department in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health.

Since 2008, MFK has produced, donated or sold over 1,381,812 kilograms of Medika Mamba, enough to offer the hope of recovery to over 138,000 malnourished children.
