Capital Markets Transaction Leader

We continue to expand rapidly and are looking for exceptional staff to join our Capital Markets senior team in Nairobi. In this role, you will work closely with our Head of Capital Markets and Open Capital’s Partners to lead multiple client capital raise and financial structuring projects across Africa while managing & mentoring Analysts and Senior Analysts. This role is a 2+ year career-track role, with promotion potential to OCA’s senior management.

Our Capital Markets team sits across all of OCA’s project teams, serving as experts on financial structuring and capital raising. We act as a central point of contact for all investor outreach, working with OCA’s network of nearly 200 investors globally, and lead all capital raise and financial advisory projects across the firm.

As a Transaction Leader, you will support multiple live projects simultaneously across a range of high-growth industries and client types. You will be in a unique position to help structure some of the most innovative deals in Africa in sectors including off-grid energy, water, agribusiness, forestry, healthcare, and others. Examples of our past work have included raising equity for venture capital-stage companies, structuring new debt vehicles for off-grid energy companies and creating social impact bonds, among others.
In the Transaction Leader role, you will liaise regularly with impact investors, VCs/PEs, HNWIs and DFIs to introduce and negotiate transactions, and work with senior management to develop our wider Capital Markets strategy.

You will join Open Capital at an exciting time – we are seeking to achieve broad, ambitious growth goals, and leverage our strong international brand in the impact investing and frontier market space. As we look to deepen our reach in the broader African market, there will continue to be many opportunities to engage in project work regionally. The right candidate should be excited and genuinely motivated by the challenging strategic and financial questions we answer for our clients.

Our team is energetic and driven and we are quick to reward performance and initiative. We seek candidates with the following experience:

• 6-8+ years of experience at a top investment bank, private investment firm, or corporate with significant experience in financial advisory, investments, or related areas;
• Experience in private equity/VC, M&A, Project Finance, ECM or DCM with the ability to apply product knowledge to new financial structures, markets and sectors;
• Significant experience building and managing financial models in Excel;
• Strong communication skills and analytical abilities and insightful, structured way of presenting information;
• Ability to effectively work with clients at all levels and backgrounds;
• Interest in guiding teams and mentoring our analysts & junior team members;
• Desire to work and live in Nairobi for at least 2-years and broader interest in the region;
• Demonstrated experience and interest working in emerging markets;
• Multiple languages and previous Africa experience useful but not required.


We offer a competitive package among similar frontier market firms. This includes base salary, annual performance bonus, international flight allowance, health insurance, a local work permit, and business reimbursables.
