Additional Information

Restoration of degraded lands globally is the single largest potential greenhouse gas strategy available to the world. The International Small Group and Tree Planting Program (TIST) embraces this strategy be encouraging Small Groups of 6-12 farmers to develop and share Best Practices for tree planting, improved farming and land use techniques on their own farms in order to combat the devastating effects of deforestation, poverty, and drought. TIST’s parent organization, Clean Air Action, has developed innovative and award-winning procedures for monitoring, quantifying, and tabulating the carbon stocks in the TIST trees, allowing the sequestered carbon to be sold in the carbon marketplace. TIST farmers receive a financial return for each tree planted and maintained as part of the program. The TIST Program has replicated and scaled from 77 subsistence farmers in Tanzania to over 90,000 farmers in four countries: Kenya, Uganda, India, and Tanzania.
