About the programme
Extreme weather events are placing growing pressure on food systems around the world. Droughts, floods, storms and rising temperatures are disrupting food production, threatening livelihoods and increasing food insecurity for vulnerable communities.
Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions. Increasingly frequent shocks and environmental degradation are putting additional strain on livelihoods and food systems, making it harder for communities to adapt and thrive. Yet across the region, innovators are developing new ways to build resilience and help communities adapt to the new realities.
To support these efforts, the World Food Programme (WFP), in partnership with the Adaptation Fund, launched the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA). Through its third edition in Latin America and the Caribbean region, WFP implemented AFCIA aims to identify, support and scale innovative solutions from across the region, or those with strong potential for implementation there, that strengthen resilience, improve food security and help vulnerable communities adapt.

What are we looking for
For this innovation challenge, the WFP Innovation Accelerator is looking for both low and high-tech solutions specifically tailored to meet distinct climate adaptation challenges in Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Peru. We aim to identify and support exceptional innovations from around the world that hold the potential to address these challenges on a significant scale. Applicants are requested to showcase a high-impact, scalable solution that matches the below call for solutions.
