Full-time

As we expand our investment platforms and scale impact, we seek a technically strong and execution-oriented Chief Operating Officer (COO) to institutionalize GreenMax’s fund management operations and lead capital-raising efforts across our financing platforms. This dual-role position will generally be split equally between Operations (50%) and Fundraising (50%).

The COO will serve as a key member of GreenMax’s leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Chairperson and CFO. This role is focused on building and managing the operational backbone of GreenMax’s fund management activities—including systems, compliance, transaction operations, portfolio monitoring, and risk.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in fund operations, private equity, or impact fund structuring, middle/back-office setup, and scaling investment platforms in emerging markets. This is not a generalist role; it requires someone steeped in the business of fund management and investment execution, with the ability to institutionalize best practices while supporting strategic growth.

Education

A Master’s degree (or higher) in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, International Development, or a closely related field is strongly preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and a proven track record of exceptional performance in fund management, capital mobilization, or investment leadership will also be considered.

Location

The preference is for the COO to be located in one of our three operational centers in Sub-Saharan Africa – Nairobi, Lagos, or Kinshasa. We are open to extraordinary candidates currently based in Europe with the understanding that the position requires spending at least 50% time across our locations in Africa.

Partner with the CFO to manage capital calls, disbursements, financial tracking, and regulatory reporting.

Regulatory, Risk, and Compliance Oversight

Design enterprise-wide risk management frameworks, covering operational, financial, reputational, and regulatory risks across jurisdictions.
Ensure that fund structures and operational processes meet global standards for fiduciary oversight and institutional investment.
Ensure business continuity planning and operational resilience in a global, multi-office environment.
Fundraising & Partnership Development
Support the preparation of pitch decks and presentations for GreenMax financing platforms.
Research and identify potential sources of different types of funding – grants, concessional/philanthropic debt, junior equity from impact investors, debt facilities from DFIs, and institutional investors/lenders.
Lead outreach to potential capital providers through direct contacts, conferences. forums and trade shows, road shows, etc.
Manage screening and due diligence processes with engaged funders.
Collaborate with the GreenMax Communications Manager to create a constant flow of media and thought pieces supporting our fundraising efforts.
