Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is a global health non-profit organization that has supported the Government of Lesotho since 2012 to strengthen health systems and improve access to quality healthcare services.With funding from the Global Fund (GF), Jhpiego, in partnership with MOH, is implementing an HIV and TB response project across Lesotho’s ten districts. The project strengthens access to HIV and TB prevention, care, and treatment services, with a focus on active TB case finding to improve early detection and reduce transmission.Jhpiego is also implementing the PrEP-eMTCT Project, which integrates HIV prevention services into maternal and child health care to reduce HIV transmission during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period.Jhpiego seeks to engage a Data Officer to support program monitoring, data management, reporting, and performance improvement across its health programs in Lesotho.
Responsibilities
- Support development and maintenance of an electronic REDCap database for the project.
- Ensure accurate and timely data collection at project sites in line with study protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Provide on-site support for data collection teams, including troubleshooting data entry issues and managing data collection devices.
- Assist in the preparation and contextualization of data collection tools, ensuring correct translations where necessary.
- Collect and compile monthly data from health facilities, including retrospective data up to six months before study implementation.
- Maintain data integrity and confidentiality in line with study protocols and ethical standards.
- Generate routine summaries to aid understanding of changes in PrEP uptake during the intervention period.
- Experience in conducting In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications and Experience
- University degree in Public Health, Demography, Statistics, Economics, Sociology, or another relevant social science field.
- Minimum of 5-6 years’ experiencein monitoring and evaluation, data management, and analysis within the health sector, preferably in TB, HIV/AIDS, public health, research, or Global Fund-supported programs.
- Demonstrated experience working with health facilities in Lesotho and supporting technical or programmatic health interventions.
- Experience in data collection, cleaning, validation, management, and analysis using electronic databases and health information systems, including DHIS2; experience with REDCapor similar database platforms is an added advantage.
- Experience in implementing and supporting qualitative and quantitative research, program evaluations, and data-driven decision-making.
- Proficiency in statistical software packages such as SPSS, Stata, or other data analysis applications.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Strong analytical, data management, and reporting skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills in both English and Sesotho.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and build the technical capacity of project and health facility staff.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Energetic, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional ethics, integrity, and a non-judgmental approach when working with diverse populations.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 40%within Lesotho to support program implementation and data quality activities.
