About the Organization:

Pencils of Promise (PoP) believes every child should have access to quality education and creates schools, programs, and global communities around the common goal of education for all. Founded in 2008, PoP focuses on building strong structures and sustainable education programs and trains young leaders to take action at home and abroad. By forming long-lasting, collaborative relationships with communities, PoP increases access to quality education and positively impacts students and parents in high-need communities across Laos, Guatemala, and Ghana. To date, over 260 schools have been built, 30,000 students have been served, and 300,000+ lives have been impacted by PoP programming. The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree, with 5+ years of non-profit development experience at a senior level

·         A background and proven track record of success in the cultivation and stewardship of major gifts, ideally with experience working with individual, corporate, and institutional donors

·         Experience managing successful development programs, such as loyalty programs, annual giving, and event planning

·         Significant experience in or familiarity with the New York City philanthropic marketplace preferred

·         A highly creative mindset with the savvy, self-confidence, flexibility, and energy to thrive in a dynamic working environment

·         A highly personable and friendly disposition, with a genuine appetite for frequent participation in social events and a comfort dealing with people of wealth and representing PoP in a range of public, high stakes venues

·         A strong track record as a capable manager, mentor, and team leader

·         Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to inspire those working with him/her toward accomplishing common objectives

·         Ability to problem solve and to navigate and lead through complexity

·         A passion for and knowledge of global literacy and numeracy education

·         Ability to travel internationally at least once a quarter and domestically at least once a month
