GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.
For the team of our “Policy Advisory for Promoting Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy II, PAP II”, we seek applications for the position of “Energy Advisor”.

A. Responsibilities
- Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior.
- Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups.
- Advice supervisor on all task when implementing GIZ rules and regulation.
- Advice supervisor in the field of project’s planning, steering and monitoring.
- Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager.
- Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit.
- Assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solution.
In this context, the position holder fulfils the following tasks:
B. Tasks (Main Job Role)
- Project Design and Implementation: Supervise and implement energy projects focused on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and grid modernization. This includes creating project plans, timelines, and budgets and reports.
- Technical Advisory and Expertise: Provide technical expertise to guide the design and deployment of energy solutions. Advise stakeholders on renewable energy systems, energy efficiency strategies, and relevant technologies.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination: Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, private sector partners, NGOs, and local communities. Facilitate regular coordination meetings to ensure alignment and progress on project goals.
- Policy and Regulatory Analysis: Analyze and advise on local energy policies and regulatory frameworks to support sustainable energy transitions. Advocate for policies that promote renewable energy adoption and sustainable practices.
- Capacity Building and Training: Design and conduct workshops, training programs, and technical sessions to strengthen local capacities in renewable energy and energy management.
- Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting: Collect and analyze data on energy usage, emissions reductions, and project impact. Prepare detailed reports for internal use, stakeholders, and donors to communicate project results.
- Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E): Establish and implement M&E frameworks to track project progress, assess performance, and measure impact. Use data to recommend adjustments to improve project outcomes.
- Knowledge Sharing and Networking: Represent the organization at conferences, forums, and meetings. Share insights, case studies, and best practices on energy and development issues, contributing to the global dialogue on energy transitions.
- Innovation and Digitalization: Identify opportunities for integrating innovative technologies such as smart grids, energy management systems, and digital tools to optimize energy management and usage.
C. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Educational Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Economics, or a related field.
- Additional training in development studies or policy can be an asset.
Professional Experience:
- At least 5–7 years of experience in the energy sector, ideally with a focus on renewable energy, energy efficiency, or sustainable development. Experience working in development cooperation or in a similar advisory role is highly valued.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, including design, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation of energy-related projects
Other knowledge, additional competences:
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of renewable energy technologies (solar, wind, hydro, etc.), grid systems, and energy efficiency measures.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools, energy modeling software, and digital platforms relevant to energy monitoring and smart technologies.
Policy and Regulatory Knowledge:
- Understanding of energy policy frameworks, regulatory processes, and standards, especially those related to renewable energy and climate policies at the national or international level.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, policy briefs, and presentations, and the ability to convey technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Effective stakeholder engagement and partnership-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with government officials, private sector actors, donors, and local communities.
Capacity Building and Training:
- Experience in designing and conducting training sessions or workshops to build capacity among local stakeholders, including government, community groups, and private sector entities.

Knowledge of Environmental and Social Impact:
- Awareness of environmental and social impacts of energy projects and a commitment to sustainable and inclusive practices in project design and implementation.

- Ability to work in dynamic and sometimes challenging environments, with strong problem-solving skills to navigate unexpected project or logistical issues.
Language Skills:
- Proficiency in English
