Job Description:

A challenging, multi-faceted position for an experienced laboratory scientist wishing to utilize international skills to strengthen diagnostic systems on a global scale. The Technical Specialist provides technical and training support to GSSHealth international public health projects, with an emphasis on laboratory and diagnostic capacity building. The Technical Specialist works with clients to implement and track project activities.

Responsibilities:

Provides technical expertise, support and strategic guidance on laboratory testing and programs
Liaises with GSSHealth clients to ensure timely implementation of project activities
Plans project activities according to agreed deliverables
Develops and delivers workshops and mentorship sessions
Coordinates international workshops and eLearning events
Advises on laboratory equipment, commodities, supplies, forecasting and supply chain
Prepares standard operating procedures, guidance documents and reports
Other activities as required
Requirements
Education: Master’s degree in laboratory science, public health, health administration or bioscience (or relevant degree).

 

Experience: 15 years of clinical laboratory experience required, with experience in resource-limited settings. Other languages skills, such as French, Spanish or Portuguese are an asset but not required.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience in HIV programs and testing in low and low-middle income countries
Expertise in supply chain management, specifically with laboratory and diagnostic commodities
Implementation of laboratory quality assurance programs
Knowledge of biosafety levels 2 and 3
Experience delivering technical presentations and facilitating discussions with diverse stakeholders
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work on a variety of special projects, concurrently
Ability to work under pressure
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Availability to travel up to 25%

Salary Description
$92,000.00-$109,000.00
