About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic, analytical, and mission-driven Head of Capital to lead the design, implementation, and oversight of our credit strategy focused on enabling access to affordable solar energy solutions for SMEs across Nigeria. This role will be responsible for credit risk assessment, loan portfolio management, and developing innovative credit solutions tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) purchasing solar products and services.
Credit Strategy & Product Development
- Design and implement a credit solutions framework tailored to the needs for solar energy access among Nigeria’s SME and individual customer credit profile.
- Develop innovative and scalable credit products (e.g., pay-as-you-go, lease-to-own, asset-backed finance) for solar panel and energy solutions.
- Establish key partnerships with external financing institutions including FinTech firms and retail banks that can extend favorable credit terms to Earthbond’s customers
- Collaborate with the Earthbond leadership and sales teams to integrate credit solutions into the customer journey.
Risk Assessment & Underwriting
- Lead the development of credit scoring models and tools to assess SME creditworthiness using both traditional and alternative data.
- Oversee the underwriting process to ensure sound credit decisions
- Monitor the credit environment and adjust risk tolerance and policies accordingly.
Portfolio Management & Monitoring
- Manage and monitor the overall health of the credit portfolio including delinquency rates, repayment behavior, and collections.
- Develop dashboards and reports to track portfolio performance
- Implement and oversee collections strategies and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal policies.
Partnerships & Capital Mobilization
- Work with financial institutions, DFIs, fintech partners, and other credit providers to structure lending, co-lending or risk-sharing partnerships.
- Support business development efforts by providing credit insights and structuring terms that meet both customer and company needs.
Team Leadership
- Provide training, mentoring, and professional development to team members to maintain high standards of credit operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in credit risk management, lending, or financial services, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience working with SME clients, preferably in energy access, cleantech, or emerging markets.
- Strong knowledge of credit risk assessment frameworks, SME financing, and alternative credit models.
- Experience in digital lending, fintech, or tech-enabled credit platforms is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of the Nigerian financial landscape, regulatory environment, and informal sector dynamics.
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a track record of managing cross-functional teams.
Why Join Us
- Be part of a mission-driven organization working at the intersection of clean energy, finance, and inclusive growth.
- Opportunity to build and scale innovative credit solutions that transform how Nigerian SMEs access and afford solar power.
- Work in a fast-paced, impact-focused environment with room for innovation and serious leadership.
