Description

What We Can Achieve Together:

The National Project Coordinator (NPC) manages the implementation of the Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded project “Improving Waste Management and Public Awareness for a Clean and Healthy Ocean” for the Eastern Caribbean Program of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), based in Grenada.

They provide technical and project management support for the project, including but not limited to overseeing all aspects of the project’s execution, including risk management, issue resolution, quality assurance, and timely delivery. They manage, track and report the project budget, ensuring costs are within approved limits and any variances are promptly addressed. They maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, progress reports, and meeting minutes. They ensure that the project implementation complies with relevant regulations, validation requirements, and best practices of GEF, Conservation International, and TNC and engage with key stakeholders to elicit their feedback and understand their requirements; thereby, ensuring alignment throughout project implementation.

Work will be conducted in a hybrid environment including office, virtual and field settings (i.e., site visits for monitoring, evaluation, and learning, etc.). This position reports to the Marine and Coastal Project Manager for the Eastern Caribbean Program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic direction, vision, coordination, resource management, and supervision required to implement the project and accomplish strategic goals and objectives.
  • Oversee all project personnel and build local and institutional capacity, including managing and mentoring.
  • Ensure timely and quality delivery of project results and products.
  • Oversee the completion of all technical requirements, including project results and deliverables.
  • Develop solutions to keep deliverables on track and motivate staff and conservation partners.
  • Direct the preparation of the annual work plans, budgets, and annual progress reports.
  • Submit timely, accurate, and professional reports that meet donor requirements.
  • Direct and oversee grant implementation, ensuring that all strategic objectives are met through proper design, staffing, implementation, and quality assurance.
  • Establish and maintain effective project monitoring, reporting, evaluation, and communication systems.
  •  Develop and monitor project indicators and targets, obtain baseline information, and monitor progress.
  • Providing training and capacity building on the Monitoring and Evaluation system for the project staff and conservation partners.
  • Guarantee the efficient and effective use of the resources to reach the desired results of the project.
  • Manage administrative or professional staff, with responsibility for performance management, training, and career development.
  • Ensure program compliance with internal policies and external and funder requirements.
  • Under minimal supervision, make independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain under physically demanding circumstances.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in managing complex and multi-stakeholder projects, including managing budgets, managing deadlines, and coordinating the work of other professionals and conservation partners.
  • Experience engaging multi-level stakeholders including community-based stakeholders, government agencies, environmental NGOs and private sector in Grenada.
  • Experience supervising staff, volunteers and/or teams to achieve stated goals/outcomes.
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements.
  • Experience researching and synthesizing information and preparing technical reports, giving attention to details.
  • Experience with problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Experience completing tasks independently across multiple projects and within allotted timeline(s).
  • Experience with communication via written, spoken, and graphical means in English.
  • Experience using desktop and web-based applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, virtual meeting and cloud storage platforms, etc.

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in natural resource management, marine science or similar field.
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staff, volunteers, workloads, and budgets under deadlines.
  • Experience working and communicating with a broad range of stakeholders, including government officials, donors, development partners, community groups, private sector and regional and/or international organizations.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in the environment and conservation, particularly on climate-related matters.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience leading interactive public presentations and preparing various types of reports for public and/or privately funded projects.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).

 

This position requires a valid driver’s license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered “high risk drivers.” To learn more about the Auto Safety Program, visit the Auto Safety information page under the FAQ section. Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee’s motor vehicle record.

 

Salary Information:

  • This is a five-year term-limited position, with an anticipated end-date of June 30, 2030.
  • The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of XCD $115,000 – 128,000 for annual base salary. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
  • Only applicants who are currently eligible to work in Grenada will be considered.  Unfortunately, The Nature Conservancy is unable to provide support for a work permit for this position.
  • Position requires a valid driver’s license and maintaining a good driving record.
