The Officer, Digital Ecosystem leads the day-to-day execution of AFIYA’s social media activities. Working closely with FSD Africa’s Strategic Communications & Engagement team, the role leverages FSD Africa’s social media channels, as well as other relevant digital platforms and online communities, to raise awareness of AFIYA, engage priority audiences, and facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange. The role combines social media management with hands-on content creation, with a particular focus on engaging young women in agrifood systems across Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal and stakeholders of the programme. It requires a creative and proactive approach to identifying stories and producing engaging content – particularly video – that brings forward the voices, experiences and expertise of AFIYA participants, partners and experts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLE REQUIREMENTS

1.Social media management & audience engagement

  • Manage day-to-day scheduling, publishing and community management of AFIYA content across FSD Africa’s social media channels, including LinkedIn, X and YouTube, and other relevant platforms.
  • Maintain a rolling AFIYA social media calendar aligned with programme activities, campaigns, events, research, learning and key milestones across Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal.
  • Identify the platforms, groups, networks and online communities where AFIYA’s priority audiences, particularly young women in Agrifood systems, are active, and develop appropriate approaches to reach and engage them.
  • Use social media to encourage two-way engagement and knowledge exchange, including participating in relevant online conversations and communities.
  • Monitor audience conversations, comments and queries, and escalate sensitive or reputational issues where required.
  • Support paid and targeted social media activity where appropriate to extend AFIYA’s reach to priority audiences.

2. Digital content production & storytelling

  • Proactively identify stories, ideas and content opportunities from across AFIYA’s work and translate them into engaging social-first content.
  • Produce content across a range of formats, including short-form video, interviews, carousels, graphics, photography and written posts, with a strong emphasis on video.
  • Work with AFIYA participants, partners and experts to capture and package their experiences, perspectives and expertise for social media.
  • Translate technical information, programme learning and evidence into accessible and engaging content for different audiences.
  • Develop content that gives greater visibility to AFIYA and FSD Africa experts, helping communicate their knowledge and perspectives in engaging social formats.
  • Apply appropriate consent and responsible storytelling practices when producing content featuring programme participants.
  • Coordinate with designers, videographers and other suppliers where more substantial production support is required.

3. Event & campaign social media support

  • Provide social media support before, during and after AFIYA events, campaigns and other programme activities.
  • Identify opportunities to capture content from programme activities in Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal, including interviews, participant stories, expert commentary and behind-the-scenes content.
  • Manage live social media coverage where appropriate and develop post-event content that extends the reach and value of AFIYA activities beyond those attending.

4. Social media analytics & continuous improvement

  • Track and report on the performance of AFIYA social media content, including reach, engagement, audience growth and other relevant measures.
  • Use social media analytics and audience insights to understand which content, formats and channels are most effective in reaching and engaging AFIYA’s priority audiences.
  • Keep abreast of social media trends, emerging platforms, content formats and changing audience behaviours, particularly among younger audiences.
  • Benchmark relevant organisations, programmes and campaigns and proactively recommend and test new approaches to strengthen AFIYA’s social media engagement.
  • Share relevant audience insights and learning with the wider AFIYA team to inform future communications and engagement.

Carry out any other duties or special assignments as assigned by the Management.
