Animal Advocacy Africa (AAA) works to prevent the spread of industrial animal agriculture in Africa and to address the harms it already causes – by finding and developing the people and organisations who can make the biggest difference for animals on the continent. The people who thrive at AAA care deeply about farmed animals and want to help them as effectively as possible. In practice, that means following the evidence even when it points somewhere unexpected, and being willing to change your mind, including about our own programmes.

All roles are full time and remote. Start dates staggered from December 2026 through March 2027. Salaries are defined based on responsibilities, location, and personal circumstances. For the sake of cost-effectiveness and mission alignment, we typically do not meet industry-equivalent salaries. For the same reasons, some of our leadership team sacrifices parts of their salary. Staff are encouraged to do so but not expected. We are open to hiring from Africa, Europe and most other regions, as long as you can work at least 3 hours each weekday that overlap with roughly 8am to 5pm in European and African time zones (about UTC+0 to UTC+3).

Purpose: Build AAA’s presence on the ground: the locally led communities, partnerships and relationships that feed our talent funnel and support our programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Help identify and recruit local leaders to establish and run Effective Animal Advocacy (EAA) groups in priority countries.

  • Work with group leads on local outreach, community building and adapting our messaging to local contexts.

  • Build and maintain partnerships with universities, professional associations, existing organisations and other recruitment channels.

  • Coordinate on-the-ground support for our in-depth programmes, including local research and logistics, working with group leads.

  • Support due diligence and local intelligence gathering through Effective Animal Advocacy (EAA) group leads, including farm visits and stakeholder interviews where relevant.

  • Work with the Communications Manager on outreach in priority countries.

Essential

  • Experience building communities, networks or partnerships, ideally in more than one country.

  • Strong relationship-building skills with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Based in Africa, with strong understanding of at least one of our priority regions (esp. Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Northern Africa, South Africa).

  • Interest in effective animal advocacy.

  • Ability to travel for several weeks per year.

Desirable

  • Existing networks in animal advocacy, effective altruism, or adjacent fields in Africa.

  • Experience supporting or running volunteer-led or locally led groups.

  • Arabic (strong plus, particularly for North African group building), French, or another regionally relevant language.

  • Comfort with data tools and AI-supported workflows.
