Program Assistant (Mumbai, India)
The Program Assistant in FSG’s Mumbai office will primarily work on our Growing Livelihood Opportunities for Women (GLOW) program.
FSG launched GLOW in 2020 to place over 1 million women from households with low-income in jobs by shifting companies’ mindset and practices. In India, women’s participation in highgrowth industries (e.g., Logistics, Flexi-staffing) is ~5%. Many jobs (e.g., warehouse packer,delivery agent) in these industries need minimal training and some women are interested in these jobs. Most companies do not employ women due to perceived risks (e.g., performance bias, safety bias, motivation bias—“A woman doesn’t have to work”), unknown benefits (e.g., reduced turnaround time, lower absenteeism, more effective work culture), and gender inequitable hiring and retention practices (e.g., recruitment channels, recruitment messaging, on-boarding, and mentoring are optimized for men). GLOW plans to sign up companies as ‘partners’, and to demonstrate the business benefits of a gender-diverse workforce. GLOW has signed up 17 companies as partners. Since January 2022, partners have run pilots (e.g., effective channels to recruit women, remuneration policies better aligned to women’s needs, gender-disaggregated data collected) leading to the development of effective practices and >1,400 women placed in jobs. By 2026, through more pilots and disseminating gender-equitable best practices to nonpartners, GLOW aims to place 100,000 women from households with low income in jobs.

Representative Responsibilities
The Program Assistant will report into the Program Manager and work closely with the Program’s
senior leadership. The role has a ‘learn and adapt’ design, so the responsibilities are expected toevolve over time. Typical responsibilities include:
1. Fundraising
 Support the Program manager in developing/adapting GLOWs fundraising strategy
 Help the Program Manager create and submit grant applications
 Conduct secondary research to identify potential funders for GLOW
 Assist GLOW senior leadership to prepare for key meetings (research on companies via
web, sending pre-reads, and follow-up material)
 Assist GLOW senior leadership in developing fundraising collateral (e.g., pitch decks,
outreach emails, concept notes)
 Manage and track outreach with key potential funders
2. Funder and vendor management
 Track actual expenses against budgets, monthly, with guidance from the Program Manager
 Support in the creation of reports to Funders (Financial and Narrative)
 Manage planning, logistics, and attend periodic funder update meetings as well as other
internal GLOW team update meetings
3. Dissemination
 Support in the development of high-impact content packages, borrowing from existing
GLOW work that may be disseminated through various means – email, microsite, events,
blogs, articles / publications, etc.
 Co-manage GLOW microsite with FSG Communications team
 Manage logistics and planning for events organized by GLOW
 Identify key external events (domestic and international) that GLOW ought to participate in, key publications that GLOW ought to contribute to
 Undertake targeted dissemination of select content to key stakeholders, based on needs identified by GLOW team
1. Education and experience
 An undergraduate degree; a graduate degree is a plus
 At least 2 years of full-time experience working in consulting, corporates, middle or back office operations
 Very strong written and verbal communication skills
o Fluency in English is required
o Proficiency in Hindi and other Indian languages is a plus
 Proficiency in using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
2. Personal qualities
 Strongly motivated to tackle the tough challenges of poverty and drive social change
 Able to travel domestically
 Able to show initiative and drive work, with moderate supervision and guidance
 Comfortable working on difficult, complex and ambiguous problems where there may be no definitive ‘right answer
 Capable of working on multiple, overlapping tasks in a fast-paced environment
 Emotionally intelligent – able to collaborate in teamwork settings with colleagues and clients

This is a full-time position, for the duration of the program, based in FSG’s Mumbai office. The salary is competitive for position and sector. The requirement is immediate.
