Applications Open for Indian “Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2013”

The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, a Switzerland-based nonprofit, and the Jubilant Bhartia Foundation, an Indian nonprofit, have announced that they are now accepting applications for the 2013 Indian “Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award.” The award celebrates social entrepreneurs deemed to have designed and implemented “innovative, practical and sustainable solutions to address poverty and the lack of basic services and resources” to low-income people in India. Anshu Gupta won the Indian Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2012 for being the founder of Goonj, a nonprofit that provides clothing to low-income people in India.

Each applicant’s initiative or venture will be evaluated according to the following five criteria: (1.) innovation, (2.) sustainability,( 3.) direct social impact, (4.) reach and scope, and (5.) how replicable the initiative is in other regions of the world.
