Balancing Profits Against Public Health in the Search for Innovative Vaccines
Tuesday, April 1, 2014
DW: What are the issues and the challenges in balancing the profit drivers of the pharmaceutical industry against our public health needs?
Professor Adrian Hill: The reality today is that there are about 20 vaccines that we would really like to have, that would make a big difference to public health. Lots of lives would be saved, sometimes millions, as in the case of tuberculosis or HIV, or hundreds of thousands of disease episodes – if we had better influenza vaccines.
