Businesses urged to take lead in supporting social enterprises
Friday, November 2, 2012
SINGAPORE : Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing has said that while the government supports social enterprises, more businesses still need to take the lead in growing the sector.
He made the comment at this year’s Social Enterprise Association conference on Friday.
Mr Chan said one of the key priorities of his newly-formed ministry is to enhance social safety nets, and this means continuing to support more aspiring or existing social enterprises.
The Social Enterprise Association has seen its membership grow over the years, and its focus evolve.
Previously, the majority of social enterprises were driven to create employment.
The Association said more start-ups are now focused on championing causes, such as sustaining the environment.
