Thursday, July 7, 2016

eKutir, a for-profit social enterprise fueling job creation, prosperity and livelihoods for India’s poorest communities, is the country’s first company to become a certified B Corp™. This prestigious designation is awarded to companies that use the power of business as a force for good, meeting the highest standards in performance, transparency and accountability to solve social and environmental problems.

eKutir’s technology-enabled ecosystem offers SaaS (Software-as- a-Service), MbaaS (Mobile Backend-as- a-Service) and PaaS (Platform-as- a-Service) solutions together with a Micro-entrepreneurship business model to address complex problems such as rural poverty in developing countries. Working across agriculture, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), food & nutrition and clean energy, eKutir converges key industry players with their ecosystem, leveraging their core competencies to ensure self-sustaining, maximum impact.

In agriculture, eKutir addresses the needs of smallholder farmers by working with field partners to replace their existing practices which are neither economically viable nor environmentally sustainable.  Living on less than $2 a day, small farmer households depend on rural employment for a living and form around 50% of the developing world’s population, 25% of which are in India.
