Mobile operator Orange, which has operations in 16 African countries, has partnered with French charity crowdfunding platform HelloAsso to launch what it says is Africa's first mobile crowdfunding platform.

The partnership sees the rollout of Orange Collecte, which uses Orange's mobile money service to provide a quick and secure way of organising fundraising campaigns.

Orange Collecte has initially gone live in Ivory Coast, and aims to allow private individuals and charitable organisations to finance events such as weddings and birthdays, as well as fundraising projects.

The solution is open to all Orange Money customers in Ivory Coast, with contributors able to make their donations using their Orange Money electronic wallet.

"Through this partnership, Orange is getting involved with the social innovation approach instigated by HelloAsso," Orange said.
