Plastics Linked to $1.5 Trillion in Annual Health Costs, Study Finds

The report cites the rapid rise in global plastic production as the principal driver of the crisis. Plastic output has increased from 2 million tonnes in 1950 to 475 million tonnes in 2022. That figure is projected to reach 1,200 million tonnes by 2060 if no regulatory action is taken.
