Wednesday, May 6, 2015

The Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), today announced the appointment of Greta Bull as its new CEO. As CGAP’s CEO, Ms. Bull is also a Director at the World Bank Group.

Ms. Bull, who assumes her role as CEO on September 1, comes from the International Finance Corporation (IFC). She succeeds Tilman Ehrbeck, who left CGAP in December 2014 to become a partner at the Omidyar Network.

Ms. Bull has more than 15 years’ experience in development finance. In her most recent role as Manager in the IFC’s Financial Institutions Group (FIG) Advisory Services, Bull oversaw a large digital financial services program in sub-Saharan Africa. The program was aimed at expanding the reach of traditional and non-traditional financial service providers.

“Greta Bull has a distinguished and diverse financial career, much of it in Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, and in sub-Saharan Africa. Her excellent strategic skills and technical expertise in areas such as digital finance, microfinance, micro-insurance and agricultural finance will be an enormous asset to CGAP,” said Gloria Grandolini, Chair of CGAP’s Council of Governors and Senior Director of Finance and Markets at the World Bank Group.

“CGAP has distinguished itself as an innovator in the field of financial inclusion. Greta’s management background and proven ability to build strong, lasting partnerships will enhance CGAP’s efforts in this important area,” said Kazuto Tsuji, Chair of the CGAP’s Executive Committee.

“I have always been impressed by CGAP’s pioneering and innovative spirit. CGAP has played a vital role in both shaping and elevating the financial inclusion agenda. I am looking forward to working with CGAP’s talented staff and with core partners and stakeholders to scale up our efforts and break down existing barriers to financial access,” said Ms. Bull.

Ms. Bull holds a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and an undergraduate degree in international affairs from the University of Washington. She is a dual U.S./British national.
