Thursday, August 11, 2016

LADYSMITH, (CAJ News) – The world’s first primary healthcare clinic on wheels will be launched in the South African city of Ladysmith on Thursday. The Phelophepa health train is an initiative by Eskom and Transnet, the electricity and freight logistics utilities respectively, aimed at providing mobile health services to communities across the country.

Transnet’s Phelophepa health train uses the existing rail network to make quality medical care an accessible reality for many of South Africa’s most remote communities.

Eskom will meanwhile unveil its new mobile health buses that will offer a number of health services to learners in schools with primary healthcare (PHC), ailment screenings, and general consultation room to provide health
check-ups, nutritional, hearing, eye-care as well as immunisations.

Eskom new mobile health clinic will complement the Transnet Phelophepa I and II trains that have been in existence for the past 21 years.
