In September, an occurrence happened in Safaricom that captured little attention of its users. The man tasked with the sole responsibility of developing strategies for on new innovation at the Telco Kamal Bhattacharya quietly left the organization. The data scientist who also natures top IT brains at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US was quoted by Reuters saying he was going to spend his time in an education start-up which he did not disclose.

While Safaricom started innovation long before Kamal Bhattacharya was hired as the head of Safaricom’s innovation lab, Alpha, he is credited for developing the second innovation revolution and was expected to deliver the next big thing after Mpesa.
