Schwab Foundation recognizes social innovators around the world

Bengaluru: Klaus Schwab’s eponymous foundation for social entrepreneurship named 11 social innovators from the world on Thursday, including two from India for coming up with ideas on waste management and child labour free carpets.

The professor who founded World Economic Forum set up Schwab Foundation in 1998, to promote social entrepreneurship.

This year, Poonam Bir Kasturi, who founded Daily Dump, is among the awardees. Winner of the 2015 India Social Entrepreneur of the Year (SEOY) Awards, conducted by the Jubilant Bhartia Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established by the Jubilant Bhartia Group in association with the Schwab Foundation, Kasturi is looking to encourage people to take up composting at their homes with a range of attractive-looking composters that support various family sizes and volumes of kitchen waste generated.

Till last year, 25,000 families and 120 institutions used Daily Dump products, collectively keeping 22,000 kg of wet waste out of landfills at no cost to the government, said the release.
