Sequoia leads $11.5 million financing for microfinancier

Sequoia Capital led an $11.5 million investment in SKS Microfinance, a fast-growing microfinance institution in India.
“It is wonderful to be an investor in an enterprise that not only makes economic sense but also helps empower the people across our nation,” said Mohit Bhatnagar, operating partner at Sequoia Capital India.
Sequoia is in the top tier of venture firms, with previous investments in Google, Yahoo and YouTube becoming home runs.
Other investors in the round included Unitus Equity Fund, Vinod Khosla, Ravi Reddy, Odyssey Capital and prior investor Sidbi.
