2014Beyond the Aid Debate: Getting smarter about how markets and charity work together is job one for those working in development"It is time we break through the false dichotomies between for-profit and nonprofit and dive into more realistic issues like how to blend two approaches, how one approach can support the other and where tensions between the two approaches exist," says Blair Miller, vice president of the Millennium Development Goals Health Alliance. - Categories

2013How We May Change the Charitable Industrial ComplexI, like many others, read Peter Buffet’s article on charity in the New York Times last month. I loved the piece but it left me wanting for more. If the “Charitable-Industrial Complex” is the old story, then what is the new one and, how do we build it? - Categories

2013Where Does Innovation Meet Scale?: Leveraging cross-sector collaborations to expand impactHow can the innovation of the social enterprise sector meet the scale of the World Bank, USAID, the United Nations, or emerging market governments? 2012Lighting Up Bihar, An Update on Husk PowerI just got back from a three day trip to Bihar, India where I was visiting Acumen Fund Global Fellow, Neha Kale, as part of my work on leadership at Acumen Fund. Husk has set up 84 plants so far serving nearly 200,000 people. - Categories

As I observe this shift, there are two things I am thinking about. - Categories

2011The Next Phase of StorytellingStorytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have to create empathy, raise capital and connect people. Those who travel back and fourth from the slums of Kenya to the conference halls of Aspen are seen as the carriers of these stories. My current work leads me to ask: What are my responsibilities as a storyteller? - Categories

2011Acumen Fund Launching East Africa Fellows ProgramI just returned from Nairobi where I attended the selection conference for our first Regional Fellows Program in East Africa. The day was inspiring on so many levels, but most of all it was a reminder of the incredible pipeline of leaders in the region that are aching to learn, grow, connect, and create real change. - Categories
