Zomia, co-founder

Kirk Acevedo co-founded Zomia, a peer-to-peer lending company that provides higher education loans to students from marginalized communities in Southeast Asia. The region first captivated him as a university student, when he traveled to the Thai-Myanmar border and met groups immersed in Myanmar’s exiled democracy movement. Acevedo served as a Peace Corps volunteer from 2012 to 2014 in Cambodia, where he taught English and started working on Zomia. Acevedo is a “third-culture kid” (TCK), explorer, and entrepreneur. He speaks Khmer and holds a BA in International Relations from American University.
