Michelle Buckles
Rainforest Alliance

Based in San Francisco, California, Michelle is the director of Sustainable Finance at the Rainforest Alliance. She is responsible for evaluating the financing needs, capacities and solutions for businesses participating in the Rainforest Alliance’s sustainable agriculture, forestry, tourism and climate programs. Michelle also manages her program’s global strategy, partnership development, fundraising and project implementation.

 

Previously Michelle worked with TechnoServe as the East Africa regional credit manager for the Coffee Initiative, a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded project. Based in Rwanda and Ethiopia, Michelle arranged $18 million in investment and working capital for coffee cooperatives in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. Michelle has also consulted with Verde Ventures/Conservation International regarding coffee financing in Peru and credit guarantees. Before her transition to impact investing, Michelle worked in the United States’ alternative investment industry in various senior institutional marketing roles. Michelle holds a BS in Finance from Indiana University, Bloomington and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
