Ascension Health

Nina Henning is currently a consultant to Ascension Health, the largest nonprofit healthcare provider in the US. She lives and works in Flint, MI where she is working on a participatory business innovation process to co-create and implement sustainable, community entrepreneur-led businesses that aim to improve the health of local residents.

Nina has nearly 10 years of experience in the field of market-based solutions to poverty and environmental degradation. She spent five years in Kathmandu, Nepal as the Managing Director of Wild Earth Pvt. Ltd., a mission-driven herbal products company, where she led a turnaround from bankruptcy to profitability. During graduate school at the University of Michigan (Erb Institute MBA/MS program), she gained experience in financing the commercialization and distribution of clean technologies, both internationally with the Acumen Fund and domestically with UM’s Frankel Commercialization Fund.

She earned her BA in History from Princeton University, and is the co-author of the Jaipur Rugs chapter in the 5th anniversary edition of CK Prahalad’s Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid (Wharton School Publishing, 2009), and the co-author of the book: Hybrid Organizations: New Business Models for Environmental Leadership (Greenleaf Publishing, 2009).
