Ted Pantone is the co-founder and CEO of Turaco. He is a social entrepreneur with a decade of experience living and working in East Africa. He is a builder and a challenger who is driven by the passion to live out his faith through redemptive business. Over the last 10 years, Ted has launched four startups, raised over US $20 million in funding and invested in more than 50 African businesses.

He previously worked as the director of MicroEnsure Labs, the R&D function of the world’s largest micro-insurer. It was during this time that he identified the commercially scalable opportunity which exists in making insurance accessible to emerging world consumers.

Ted currently manages the affairs at Turaco, an insurtech business whose mission is to free people from the fear of financial shocks.

    Africa’s insurance penetration rate in 2019 was only 2.78%, significantly lower than the global average — and insurance usage is concentrated among the urban elite, with minimal adoption among the people with the most risk of financial shocks.
