Tim Nourse is president of Making Cents International. He has focused most of his 20-year career on the financial and economic inclusion of vulnerable and underserved populations. He has managed microfinance institutions and country-wide inclusive finance programs; designed economic recovery programs for refugees and IDPs; and developed economic inclusion programs for youth, women and smallholder farmers. Beyond international development, he’s part of the local food movement, supporting the growth of his family’s 300-year-old farm in Massachusetts.

    Financial Inclusion for Rural Youth Starts with Adults

    The three-year Rural Youth Economic Empowerment Project in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen tested five different approaches to achieving financial inclusion among rural youth. It found that the most sustainable and scalable approaches leveraged infrastructure that had been used to serve adults, then adapted to serve both adults and youth at the same time.
