About the job
The Associate Director / Senior Manager, Membership ensures GOGLA’s activities, insights, and services align with members’ evolving needs. The role delivers integrated, responsive, high-value member services and reinforces GOGLA’s position as the leading industry platform.

As a key liaison to members, this role strengthens GOGLA’s value proposition, drives engagement, and fosters collaboration. It works closely with policy, investment, standards and innovation, communications, events, and insights teams to ensure members are well served and actively involved.

The ideal candidate comes from the off-grid solar sector, brings a strong network, engages confidently on technical issues, and is a proactive doer energized by broad interaction across the industry.

The position may be appointed at Associate Director or Senior Manager level, depending on experience.

Location: Nigeria or Kenya, remote working in other sub-Saharan African countries also possible.

Core Tasks:
Member Journey and Experience

Co-lead the development and delivery of GOGLA’s Membership Strategy, including the journey from recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and renewal.

Build strong, proactive relationships with members, ensuring a smooth onboarding experience, ongoing engagement, and long-term retention.

Act as a primary point of contact for members, ensuring a consistently high-quality membership experience with timely responses, tailored support, and professional interactions.

Coordinate and support the entire GOGLA team to fulfil this member journey; work with internal teams to embed member-centricity in all services and activities.

Oversee core membership systems and processes (e.g., CRM management, renewals, billing oversight, and member insights) to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and growth.

Manage the designated Membership budget, ensuring responsible expenditure and adherence to GOGLA’s financial procedures.

Member Value & Services

Ensure GOGLA’s Working Groups, projects, events, insights, and advocacy priorities are aligned with member needs and sector trends.

Adding value for members by connecting members with the same interests.

Identify opportunities to enhance GOGLA’s value proposition for both existing and prospective members.

Work collaboratively with program leads so member perspectives inform research agendas, work plans, convenings, and policy initiatives.

Develop clear, compelling tools and narratives that effectively communicate GOGLA’s value and impact to members and potential members.

Support member engagement across working groups, events, and Board interactions to ensure cohesive and impactful participation.

Community Building, Partnership and Visibility

Lead proactive membership recruitment, identifying and approaching high-potential companies and investors with a structured recruitment pipeline, including prospect research, outreach, pitching, and conversion.

Champion the off-grid solar sector and represent member priorities to external stakeholders, partners, and audiences.

Maintain strong feedback channels between members and GOGLA’s programmatic and policy development work.

Foster a vibrant, inclusive member community by supporting internal and external events that promote collaboration and amplify member needs.

Identify opportunities to connect members with each other and relevant partners and initiatives and services.

Contribute to member-focused communications – such as the Member Briefing and related newsletters, website content, press releases, and social media – to highlight engagement opportunities and member achievements.

Other Management Responsibilities:

Provide collaborative leadership across teams and projects, contributing to a positive, aligned, and high-performance organizational culture.

Responds to, anticipates, and shapes stakeholder needs and perspectives as well as adapting different workstreams to evolving perceptions of needs while identifying and taking advantage of any follow-up opportunities to promote relationships with stakeholders.

Lead project management across the full project lifecycle, from design and planning through delivery, evaluation, and learning.

Independently creates fundraising proposals and aligns fundraising activities with organizational goals and initiatives while incorporating donor objectives into funding proposals.

Contribute to the development and execution of GOGLA’s organizational strategy.

Promote an inclusive, supportive team environment that fosters continuous learning, open communication, and effective collaboration.

Mentor and guide junior team members to strengthen membership growth, engagement, and retention.

Represent GOGLA at industry events, online forums, and direct meetings.

Influence and strengthen a culture of member service excellence, responsiveness, and accountability.

Other tasks related to GOGLA’s core operations and/or the Membership & Industry Investment team, as required or as identified by the Leadership Team.

About you:
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation of experience and expertise that includes:

Master’s degree in management or business administration, economics, international relations, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree with substantial relevant experience may also be considered.

8+ years of progressively responsible experience in stakeholder engagement, partnerships, program management, business development, client success, or membership/community-facing roles.

Proven track record of leading engagement strategies, developing and executing business processes, managing complex stakeholder portfolios, or delivering value to business customers or members.

Experience in the energy access, distributed renewable energy, or related impact sectors is a strong advantage.

A natural communicator with excellent English language writing and presentation skills (French or Portuguese a plus)

Solid experience managing projects and budgets, with strong organizational and analytical abilities.

Comfortable working with CRM systems and digital collaboration tools.
