Big Oil Gets Into EVs? ExxonMobil’s US Lithium Mine Could Mean Cheaper Cars

ExxonMobil will begin drilling for lithium in Arkansas in 2027, with an eye on supplying the manufacturing needs of one million electric vehicles per year by 2030.

The company says it’s already in talks with multiple automakers and battery manufacturers, though lithium could also be used in batteries for other consumer electronics, as well as home energy systems like the Tesla Powerwall.
