Future Group to pitch Mother Earth chain against retailer Fab India

MUMBAI: Future Group, the country’s largest retailer, will pitch its Mother Earth chain directly against ethnic products retailer Fabindia by expanding rapidly and borrowing its rival’s social enterprise-style business model.

Mother Earth plans to open more than 100 outlets and focus on apparel, linens and accessories, which will be also sold in multi-branded department stores such as Shoppers Stop and Lifestyle, with an aim to increase its annual sales more than five fold, a top official said. At present, Mother Earth has eight stores selling products in the furniture and handicrafts segment with revenues of less than 100 crore.
