HSBC Invests in Climate Tech Venture Founded by Bill Gates
By Margaryta Kirakosian
HSBC is to invest $100m (€89.4m) in Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, a network founded by Bill Gates to develop clean technologies to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
The programme is focusing on private-public partnerships to provide investments in the following four areas: direct air capture, clean hydrogen, long-duration energy storage, and sustainable aviation fuel.
In October 2021 UK prime minister Boris Johnson and Gates announced a new partnership to drive investment into clean energy technologies, which will be carried out through Catalyst.
