Nairobi Targets Creators With New Fees as County Expands Digital Tax Net

Nairobi County has opened a new front in its search for revenue, imposing fresh charges on filmmakers, content creators, influencers, streaming platforms and other players in the city’s fast-growing digital entertainment economy. The move, contained in the 2026 Finance Act, could raise the cost of producing and monetising content in the capital, hitting independent creators and small production outfits hardest.
