Alvaro Ma is Global Senior Investment Officer in Oikocredit International’s Innovation Hub.

He manages global partnerships for Oikocredit International, which include collaborations with groups and holding companies, with third-party guarantee providers and with strategic partners such as Opportunity International.

Leveraging his microfinance experience in Peru and his impact investing experience in the Netherlands, Alvaro has responsibility for Oikocredit’s community-focused approach and for the strategic alliances the cooperative has built to execute this part of the strategy.

Alvaro rejoined Oikocredit in 2023 after a period of three years when he worked with Aqua for All (also an Oikocredit strategic partner) in building innovative finance solutions and partnerships with financial institutions in Africa and Asia to grow their water and sanitation portfolios.

Previously Alvaro worked for eight years in credit teams, and for the last four years was Head of Credit Analysis at Oikocredit International. He was part of the risk department management team and also a member of the Credit Committee of Oikocredit International.

Alvaro holds an MBA from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, where he followed a pilot dual degree programme that also awarded him an MSc in financial management. He has followed several executive education courses, including Harvard Business School’s strategic leadership in inclusive finance programme. In addition, he holds a BA degree in economics from Universidad del Pacifico in Lima, Peru.
