Libby McDonald
MIT D-Lab

Libby McDonald teaches D-Lab: Gender and D-Lab: New Economies. Her research and practice focus on strategies for providing livelihood opportunities to the informal sector (waste-pickers, street vendors and small-scale agricultural workers) through business creation and the development of inclusive markets. Prior to her work at D-Lab, she worked with MIT’s Community Innovators Lab, partnering with the Inter-American Development Bank and United Nations Development Program to create regional networks of small- and medium-sized waste and recycling businesses that provide jobs to people living in extreme poverty and help move regions toward zero waste in Brazil, Panama, Mexico and Nicaragua. Passionate about recycling and local food initiatives, she supports local agriculture and maintains a nearly zero waste household.
