Sara Seavey

Sara Seavey is a gender equality and social inclusion consultant with extensive experience in inclusive economic growth and women’s financial inclusion. Most recently, she led gender integration across the International Finance Corporation’s global agribusiness investments and advisory platforms, and oversaw projects under the Women in Agribusiness Value Chain program.

She has worked in more than 20 countries, collaborating with diverse partners including Cowater International, IFC, the Center for Financial Inclusion, Land O’Lakes Venture37, the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, Banyan Global, MEDA, and FHI 360.

She holds a Master’s degree in Social Enterprise from American University and a B.A. in International Affairs from Connecticut College.

The demise of USAID has profound implications for the movement toward gender equality in financial inclusion and other development priorities. According to Julia Arnold and Sara Seavey, consultants specializing in women’s financial inclusion, the agency played a central role in funding, researching and coordinating global gender equality work — and without that anchor, these efforts are at risk of fragmentation and regression. They argue that this moment places responsibility on the sector itself to preserve the values, evidence and accountability structures that made progress toward gender-inclusive finance possible.
