Stephanie Barrientos
Brooks World Poverty Institute

Stephanie Barrientos is programme director of the MSc Globalisation and Development at the Brooks World Poverty Institute at The University of Manchester. The MScprogramme aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of globalization, and of the economic, social and political dimensions of globalisation and development.

Barrientos gained her BA and PhD in Political Economy at the University of Kent. She was previously a Research Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex (2000-7). She has researched and published widely on gender, global production, employment, decent work, international labour standards, corporate social responsibility, fair trade, and ethical trade.

Barrientos has advised and provided training for a number of companies, NGOs and international organisations on issues concerning gender, agribusiness, ethical trade, decent work, and impact assessment, including: DFID, DEFRA, ILO, UNCTAD, UNIDO, World Bank, Commonwealth Secretariat, Body Shop, Cadbury Schweppes, CAFDOD, Christian Aid, Oxfam, and ActionAid.
