Africa Narratives, Representation and Opportunities in Film & Media.

By Society for Africans in Diaspora (SAiD)

It Takes One Voice to Make a Difference. A Discussion on Identity, Beauty, Pride, opportunities and africa narratives. In a culture, film is one of many modes of expression that is based on representations. for many people, media representations may be their first and often only source of information about, or reference for, people outside of their social and cultural circles. “ New Frontier in Film conversation” will examine how the African diaspora has been depicted in film and media, representing distinctly different loci of the diaspora, in the United States and Africa. The scope of the panel discussion specifically examines the representation of that diaspora in films. We hope to use this dialogue as a vessel in harnessing the energy of our collective strength to share experiences and create pathways to thrive.

Narratives are often described as a collection or system of related stories that are articulated and refined over time to represent a central idea or belief. It takes a village to build a continent. You can play a role in helping us shift narratives about Africa because until lions learn to write, hunters will tell their stories for them.
