Bridging the Digital Gap

Session Description

Differentiating between coverage and usage is vital to ensure mobile reduces the digital divide in an economically viable and truly inclusive way. Too much focus is still given to infrastructure deployment when the data clearly tells a different story: 85% of those who remain offline live in areas with readily available network infrastructure. The problems remain in underserved populations that face barriers such as affordability, lack of digital skills, or simply a lack of relevant online services. In this session we focus on women, the disproportionally poor, and persons with disabilities and ask; what still needs to be done?
