IFC’s 10th International Food Safety Forum
For over a decade, IFC has helped food companies in emerging and developing markets participate in modern food value chains and build capacity of governments to improve their food safety control systems.
The IFC’s 10th International Food Safety Forum will bring together private and public sector players in the agribusiness with an interest in global food safety. The theme of this year’s forum – Keeping Food Safe and Nutritious, Preventing Losses – will highlight solutions for providing safer and nutritious food for domestic consumers while preventing food losses.
The IFC’s 10th International Food Safety Forum also promotes the theme of the World Food Safety Day “Food Standards Save Lives”.

Bangladesh Food Safety Authority under the Ministry of Food is the co-partner of this forum.
Bangladesh has achieved strong economic growth over the last 10 years, with poverty reduction driven by increases in agricultural productivity.
However, food companies and agri-entrepreneurs in Bangladesh face numerous challenges. Unsafe/contaminated food causes many acute and life-long diseases, ranging from diarrheal diseases to various forms of cancer. WHO estimates that globally foodborne and waterborne diarrheal diseases together kill about 2.2 million people annually, of them 1.9 million are children. This has huge economic ramifications on the economy: FAO has estimated that in Dhaka-city alone and for only six diseases, the economic losses total $1.65 billion per year.
The Government of Bangladesh has made development of the agriculture sector a priority. The World Bank and IFC are supporting this sector with several large investment projects in the country.
The Forum will put in touch IFC active and potential clients, decision makers of top food producers, policymakers, manufacturers, tourism companies, retailers, cold chain logistics providers, consumer organizations, and other players in the agribusiness sector in Bangladesh.
