Localising India’s EV Future: The Role of Industrial Policy
India’s electric mobility transition presents a major opportunity to localise EV manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports. While adoption of EVs is growing rapidly, gaps in domestic manufacturing capabilities across EV powertrain components such as batteries, motors, and power electronics continue to pose challenges.
This webinar will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, financiers, and think tanks to discuss how industrial policy, as a lever, can accelerate EV value chain localisation in India. Drawing on WRI India’s on-ground engagements with automotive MSME clusters and state governments, the discussion will focus on the role of national and state-level industrial policies in EV localisation, strategies to attract greater investment in the EV sector, and the support required by the automotive industry to localise EV manufacturing in India.
The session aims to support a national, action-oriented dialogue that links policy design with industrial realities to advance India’s EV localisation agenda.
