The Future of Work in Africa and Opportunities in Wellness

Today’s world moves very fast. This speed is making way for new ways of working. In Africa, pioneers in all sectors are paving the path for a new kind of workplace and new types of ‘jobs’. One of the attributes of this increased speed in work environments, is the intense level connectivity work now requires, where people are not ‘switching off’ when they go home, rather they are constantly plugged into their work. This makes it challenging to maintain a healthy work-life balance. To this effect, there are many examples of unbalanced work lives where workaholic-tendencies are having health and sometimes even life/death implications. We therefore need to step back and consider the role of health and wellness in the future of work and how that might effect work in Africa? What opportunities need to be created by young people that will have implications on shaping the evolving wellness and health industries? During our next Future Forward webinar, we explore views regarding the future of work and ways in which young people are seizing opportunities to fulfill evolving health and wellness needs. Our panel will feature experts, social entrepreneurs, development practitioners and young people.
