Turning the Tide in Ocean Finance: Navigating Gaps and Opportunities

A Partners in Purpose Webinar with Builders Vision’s Lisa Forbes and Peter Bryant

Exploring why ocean health is foundational across the impact landscape — and how investors and philanthropists can help build a more resilient blue economy.

Many of the impact themes funders care about most intersect with ocean health.

Ocean health is deeply connected to climate resilience, biodiversity, food security, livelihoods and economic prosperity, making it a powerful and cross-cutting pathway for impact. Yet funding has not matched that importance. SDG 14: Life Below Water remains one of the least-funded UN Sustainable Development Goals, and significant gaps persist between the capital needed and the capital flowing to ocean health.

That is beginning to change. New funds, blue bonds, debt-for-nature swaps and blended finance structures are expanding the ways capital can move into the sector. The opportunity now is to build on that momentum, and to understand how philanthropy, catalytic capital and private investment each can play a role in advancing ocean solutions toward scale.

Oceans is one of three interconnected sectors where Builders Vision concentrates its investment and philanthropic capital to drive systemic change. ImpactAssets works across the broader impact investing and philanthropic landscape, with visibility into how capital is deployed across the full range of themes and financing structures.
