Webinar: Powering the Clean Cooking Transition: The Emerging Role of Electricity Utilities
Electricity utilities are increasingly becoming central players in expanding access to clean cooking, particularly through electric cooking (e‑cooking) solutions and on‑bill financing models that create value for both consumers and utilities. As momentum grows across countries and institutions, this webinar will unpack the opportunities, challenges, and business models that can help utilities scale modern cooking services while strengthening customer engagement, increasing electricity demand, and advancing development and climate goals. Drawing on global experience, MECS will outline the fundamentals of e‑cooking and the utility business case; TANESCO will share lessons from piloting and scaling e‑cooking initiatives in Tanzania; and the discussion will highlight how utility‑led energy efficiency and financing programs—including those supported by the World Bank—can inform practical pathways for integrating clean cooking into utility operations and accelerating widespread adoption.
