Africa calling: rewarding patient investors
In the 1970s, it was Idi Amin’s expulsion of Asians from Uganda. In 1980s, it was a malnourished child in Ethiopia, struggling just to stand up. In the 1990s, it was piles of mutilated corpses in Rwanda. For many in the west, these remain the defining images of Africa – despots, disasters and despair.

Paul Polak to Speak at the Latin American Impact Investing Forum: Feb. 20, 21 and 22
On February 20, 21 and 22, the Third Annual Latin American Impact Investing Forum will be held in Merida, Mexico. The forum will feature expert lectures and interviews, panels of case studies, workshops, and roundtable discussions. Paul Polak will be a featured speaker on February 21.

Why the Arab awakening depends on social entrepreneurs
For two years, I have resisted use of the term Arab Spring to describe the events that have been unfolding in Egypt and the Middle East and North Africa. It is an unrealistic label to use, its application verging on naïve, even lazy, in this situation. Spring is a time where something with strong roots, carefully nurtured, flourishes and grows. We are not there yet; I hope that we may be soon.
