CHIEF OF STAFF
We are searching for a Chief of Staff to support Jacqueline Novogratz,
the Founder and CEO of Acumen.

About the role
We are looking for a thought leader and community builder to support Acumen’s Founder and CEO. Although you will report directly to the CEO, Jacqueline shares leadership of Acumen with the President, Carlyle Singer. Your job is to support Jacqueline’s work in the world, while ensuring that the President is in the loop and shares agreement on significant issues that impact the company. At Acumen, we work with people, not around them.
+ Execute the strategy developed by the CEO and President on where and how the CEO touches the organization most strategically and ensure she is in touch with major Acumen stakeholders, while cultivating and balancing external opportunities. (There are many moving pieces. In the next year, Acumen will have eight offices, four returnable capital funds, and seven fellows programs, four of which are new. Those are just the internal networks. Add on the cultivation and management of the CEO’s overlapping personal and professional networks, supporting her role on two investment committees, and communicating externally the “why” and “how” of Acumen’s investment work for a true sense of the role.)
+ Build a coherent communications plan for the CEO that is supportive of—not competitive with—the work of the Acumen Communications team. This includes supporting the launch of the CEO’s next book and building communities around moral leadership.
+ Build an ever-stronger community of influencers and major givers, including unrestricted giving.
+ Be a source of imaginative and inspiring ideas for the people we should cultivate and connect, ideas we should know, and places we should be. Help Jacqueline stay on the pulse of what is happening in the world so that she can lead Acumen where we are most needed
+ Oversee the CEO’s scheduling madness. It is a big part of the job. You will need to be proactive and able to respond with grace to requests. The Executive Assistant reports directly to you and your job is to support and direct their work.
This position is for someone who delights in a fast-paced, mission-driven, high-intensity, ever-changing environment. Creativity, maturity, and nuance are required. You are intellectually curious, have a strategic view, excellent relational and managerial skills, can communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders, and are willing to collaborate across internal Acumen functions.
+ 8+ years in the work force. 2+ years experience in a similar or related role.
+ A strategic view: an ability to grasp the entirety of the Acumen ecosystem—its purpose, its history, the myriad of stakeholders, its emerging direction, and the goals that support that direction.
+ Seasoned relational and collaboration skills: clarify Jacqueline’s work while collaborating with the President; communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders without clashing with Communications and Marketing.
+ Diplomacy, discretion and unflappability: You will encounter big personalities, challenging dynamics, and strong interpersonal currents. You keep your cool, stay focused on the issues, and keep swimming.
+ A willingness to engage with power, but not be captured by it. Our aim is to serve the poor. That aim resides at the center of your daily consciousness.
+ Excited to travel and connect with people all over the world from all walks of life.
