The Chief of Staff will be an extension of the Executive Office, helping to oversee the GIIN’s operations and manage critical relationships on behalf of senior leadership. The role is part strategic, part relationship management, part focused on operational excellence, and wholly dedicated to the mission of the GIIN. The Chief of Staff will support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Programs & Operating Officer (CPOO) in planning and managing all programmatic, administrative, financial, and operational activities within their purview, helping ensure that daily operations run smoothly. They will implement strategic initiatives, measure and monitor outcomes, and help drive decisions or process improvements that make the organization more effective. They will also help maximize the efficiency of the Executive Office. Externally, they will support relationship management and executive communications, helping to enhance the GIIN’s leadership position and voice in the market.

Success in this role requires strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate must be organized, creative, resourceful, analytical and proactive, with a high degree of professionalism and interpersonal skills. They should have a passion for building collaborations and energized by the prospect of driving impeccable execution with strong project management. They must demonstrate sound judgment and exercise discretion. They must be oriented towards action as well as adaptive, collaborative, and decisive in a fast-paced environment.

Core responsibilities include:

Implement large, often cross-functional, organization-wide projects or initiatives on behalf of the CEO and CPOO, bringing together important stakeholders and helping to drive decisions
Manage workflow to ensure that CEO and CPOO are meeting important deadlines and staying up to date with projects that require their input or authority
Support leaders in meetings and events – helping with meeting preparation, agenda management, and follow-ups, and occasionally standing in for the CPOO or CEO
Liaise with members of the executive team to monitor the progress of strategic priorities on behalf of the CEO and CPOO; Develop processes to ensure effective communication between teams and align team goals and metrics to company key performance indicators
Support the CEO and CPOO’s work portfolio and prioritization of time by managing the flow of information to the Executive Office, resolving issues, and supplying analysis and advice on key issues
Provide strategic time management support to the CEO and CPOO by aligning their commitments with strategic priorities. This includes coordination of long-term travel and meeting plans, including determining when and with whom to hold meetings, agenda, materials to be shared, etc.
Manage select inquiries directed to the CEO and CPOO, decide the proper course of action, and then delegate to the appropriate individuals
Develop or edit external communications such as pitch decks, reports to the Board of Directors, meeting or event materials, and public presentations
Support the CEO and CPOO in developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the impact investing ecosystem
Propose the creation of new systems and processes to streamline operations
Monitor and manage the Executive Office budget, on behalf of the CEO and CPOO, ensuring that activities are in line with targets; Approve expenses
Manage recruiting for roles reporting to the CEO and CPOO, in partnership with Human Resources. This may include drafting and posting job descriptions, managing interview processes, and screening candidates
Develop and negotiate vendor contracts and other agreements, on behalf of the CEO and CPOO

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher
Experience working as a Chief of Staff, or providing advanced support to senior executives, or experience in a role focused on operational excellence, or ability to demonstrate how an alternative career path has prepared the candidate for success in this role
Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Excellent project management skills
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to think strategically and execute tactically
Strong oral and written communication skills required
Keen eye for detail and proven experience developing, implementing, and supporting organizational systems and policies
Exceptional communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate with senior executives and external stakeholders
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software and willingness to learn other information platforms used by the organization (e.g., Salesforce, Asana)
Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, with demonstrated ability to create professional level presentations and basic financial models
Experience in strategic planning, such as developing business plans, budgets, performance targets, and financial reports, and overseeing implementation of strategic initiatives, is a plus
Change management experience is a plus
Ability to travel domestically and internationally for work as needed with starting assumption of approximately 10-15% of time

Additional Information

Compensation:

The GIIN is committed to pay equity. The salary range for this role is between $81,800-$110,000 , with exact salary depending on experience, with an excellent benefits package.

We aim to offer competitive salaries and benefits and are committed to equity, trust, and transparency in compensation. Basing compensation on someone’s willingness and ability to negotiate or on their prior salary leads to wide inequities and bias in how people are paid, particularly for groups experiencing historical oppression. Therefore, we do not ask for prior pay history from our candidates and our offer-making process is negotiation-free for salaries and benefits.

We determine the best possible salary offer based on relevant experience and extent to which candidates demonstrate the competencies for the role during the entire hiring process. The GIIN also uses our annual performance evaluation process at the end of each year to determine raises and promotions.
